Abstract

Psychic trauma is considered to be possible etiological factor of mental disorders in psychiatry and psychotherapy. It was clear since the introduction of Posttraumatic stress disorder to DSM III, that the field of posttraumatic states is more complex than described in diagnostic criteria. There search of posttraumatic states has led to the establishment of diagnosis of Complex posttraumatic stress disorder and DESNOS (Disorders of extreme stress not otherwise specified). Psychotherapeutic approaches to these disorders are trans theoretic, anchored in neuroscience findings concerning attachment disturbances, emotion regulation, explicit and implicitmemory, dissociation and cortical integration. This paperis dealing with history, neurobiological context and its implications for trauma treatment.
