About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Pedagogická orientace is a peer reviewed scholarly journal which aims to support the development of pedagogical thinking. It comprises articles on current issues in theory and practice in education, curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, educational research, educational policy and teacher education. The Journal provides a forum for distinguished authors as well as young researchers from within the Czech Pedagogical Society as well as from outside.
Peer Review Process
Prior to publication, each paper (excluding letters/discussion papers, reports and book reviews) is judged by the Editor and peer-reviewed by two anonymous experts.
Pedagogická orientace aims at being perceived as a journal with demanding review proceedings. Double-blind peer review is conducted in order to ensure that only papers which meet the formal and content requirements specified by both the Journal and the reviewers are published. These requirements are influenced informally by other authors publishing in the Journal as well as its readers.
After consulting the rest of the editorial team, the editor-in-chief chooses two reviewers, experts in the area tackled by the manuscript, to review the paper. The editorial team purposefully avoid sending papers for reviews to experts who are bound to the author/s of the paper personally or work-wise.
In case the reviewers do not see eye to eye over a paper, either a third reviewer is approached, or a final conclusion to the review proceedings is made based on the editors’ discussion within the Journal.
In accordance with the views of the peer-reviewers and the editor-in-chief, the final outcome of the review proceedings takes the form of one of the following alternatives:
(a) The paper will be published without alterations.
(b) The paper will be altered prior to publication in compliance with peer-reviewers’ recommendations.
(c) The paper will not be published (in case it is rewritten fundamentally by the author, it will be submitted to another peer review).
The review proceedings usually take 8 weeks, starting on the day the author is informed about the commencement of the review proceedings.
The author is provided with the (peer) review report. In case the author alters their paper according to the peer review reports, they can respond to the reviews in a covering letter (they can highlight/ explain which observations were accepted, which were not incorporated or which they do not agree with). The formal requirements for the revised manuscripts (i.e. those incorporating reviewers’ observations) remain the same as for the first versions of the submitted manuscripts (e.g. the recommended length of the text).
Open Access Policy

Journal History
In May 1967, the first issue of the Journal was published by a group of predominantly Moravian pedagogues aiming at contributing to the free development of pedagogical thinking as well as an opportunity for friendly exchanges of ideas without censorship or conformance to official mainstream while yet backed up by distinguished experts. Five issues were published before communist Normalisation censorship was reinstated, and established “truths” were conformably reiterated again.
In 1991, Pedagogická orientace was revived and Issue 1 was published again with Stanislava Kučerová as its editor-in-chief. The period between 1991–2005 was surveyed in a study by Jiří Zounek and Petr Jedlička in a monothematic issue dedicated to the history of CPS (Czech Pedagogical Society).
In 1996, the Journal was assigned an ISSN (1211-4669) and was published quarterly with Zdeňka Veselá as editor-in-chief.
In 2001, an editorial board was established in addition to an existing editorial team with Vlastimil Švec as its director. In 2006, Tomáš Janík became the editor-in-chief while Petr Franiok was the director of the editorial board. He was replaced by Petr Byčkovský (2009) and Tomáš Čech (2010).
In 2011, the positions of an editor-in-chief and a director of the editorial board were consolidated into one.
Editors-in-chief:

- Petr Knecht (2015–2018)
