The paper focuses on the concept of competency approach which has increasing influence on professional education in psychotherapy. Competency approach builds upon explicitly defined target competencies and enable compare them with expected professional benchmarks. Primarily the focus is on the basic (core) competencies, methods how to evaluate them and on competency training. Finally I mention positive and potentially negative impact of the competency-based education.
