Profession: Family therapist

The article focuses on specific attributes of family therapy. It is argued that family therapy process brings unique challenges and demands on the therapist, who dares to work with couples and/or families. Thus the article reviews competencies that are essential for family therapy practice. The review is drawn on the international discussion in the field including debates about training standards recommended by professional bodies. Significance of life experience, professional experience, and personal therapy and their influence on family therapist´s professional development are discussed.
