Counseling versus psychotherapy?

Vol.8,No.1(2014)

Abstract

The text seeks to answer the question whether it is possible to distinguish meaningfully between counseling and psychotherapy. The analysis is based on a review of available literature defining the differences between psychotherapy and counseling, and on disputation with this literature. The author examines the differences in three areas - the aim, the method and the object of work –and brings arguments which put these differences into question. In conclusion,he presents a model that allows us to look at the differences between the two disciplines at three different levels and thus brings some structure to an otherwise confusing issue.
