Combination of psychotherapy and psychiatric medication from the gestalt therapy perspective
Vol.7,No.1(2013)
This article describes a way of thinking about medication use in psychotherapy and at the same time keeping the psychotherapeutic view on the uniqueness of every patient and the dialogic essence of an encounter in psychotherapy. A dichotomic way of thinking „psychotherapy versus medication“ is overcome in the text by a metaphor of „medication as a crutch“ or „medication as a prosthesis“, which puts well the feature of medication as an external support.
