A human in a difficult life situation - case study (Logotherapeutic approach to work with oncologically ill patient)

Vol.2,No.1(2008)

Abstract

This case report describes psychotherapy of a patient who finds himself in a very difficult life situation. Dealing with the fact that he was discovered to have cancer was out of his physical and mental powers. Together we went on a journey. A journey that was very hard, changeful, filled with both success and failure, hopes and doubts. At the beginning of our sessions the patient intended to discontinue treatment. He was having suicidal ideation and did not admit he could cope with the present situation one day. During our journey he was gathering strength and hopes to - in words of logotherapy - say yes to his life"" again. In this case report I portray our mutual effort, in which logotherapy and existential analysis were my inspiration and assistance.
