The development of psychoanalysis:from bias (and internal drives) to intersubjectivity

Vol.5,No.3-4(2011)

Abstract

The development of psychoanalysis: from bias (and internal drives) to intersubjectivity Contemporary psychonalysis abandoned the original bias theory as well as the one--sided therapeutic view on the intrapsychical dynamics. Similarly the opinion about the development of the human subjectivity changed: the primary issue (initial state) is not an egoistic newborn baby, who learns to relate to others; the origin condition is characterized through connection, binding, mutuality, primary intersubjectivity. The organisational principle of the developing personality is not first of all the psycho-sexual development, the enviromental influences and the creation of interpersonal experiences (patterns) are much more important. Contemporary relational psychoanalysis works with the fact that the subjective emotional worlds of both protagonists meetand join in an intersubjective process, which becomes the topic of the analysis. In this sense, equal position, mutual participation and engagement on analytical collaboration are supposed and supported.
