Integration in Czech psychotherapeutic trainings

Vol.6,No.3-4(2012)

Abstract

This research study seeks to answer the question of how various psychotherapeutic trainings treat integration (or, more generally, the existing plurality of theoretical perspectives). Presented results are based on qualitative analysis of interviews with representatives of seven Czech training institutes, which were assumed to have adopted some form of integration. Concepts arising from the analysis are organized into three areas. The first one, centrality vs. peripherality dimension of integration distinguishes different attitudes that various institutes can hold towards psychotherapy integration. The second area involves the integrative openness, the central concept of the whole analysis, and also phenomena which set limits to this openness. The third area captures the formation of an individual therapeutic style and its association with integration. In conclusion, some practical suggestions arising from this analysis are presented.
