What is the place of psychotherapy in psychosomatics? Bio-psycho-social view

Vol.15,No.2(2021)

Abstract

Psychosomatic medicine in a special regime, in addition to biomedicine and psychotherapy, meets the strictest criteria for health and illness as defined by the WHO. No single treatment technique is itself an instrument of psychosomatic treatment, it is only in conjunction with the way a doctor thinks. We therefore argue that the main tool of psychosomatic treatment in order to maintain the status of a scientifically defensible discipline is systemic theory and a balanced bio-psycho-social approach. From a broad perspective on health and disease, psychosomatic intervention may include a wide range of remedies ranging from the word in open dialogue, through any known therapeutic approach, which we understand as the vehicle of the therapeutic alliance. The cure is not only relief from symptoms, but above all mutual tuning of the biological, psychological and social strata in the life of our patient based on the previous tuning in the doctor-patient relationship. What place does psychotherapy have here?
