The client: Often neglected helpful factor in psychotherapy

Vol.14,No.1(2020)

Abstract

Theoretical study presents the client factor; according to some authors the most neglected therapeutic factor; mainly in the context of contemporary psychotherapy research dominated by the so-called medical model. The concept of reflexivity and agency is presented as the fundamental essence of client factor; mainly in the studies of David Rennie and also more recent studies about how to strengthen and support the client´s agency in psychotherapy. Further we review studies on client´s motivation; client´s own strategies in psychotherapy and on working with client´s strengths and resources.
