Conflict and change in group psychotherapy: A narrative case study
Vol.13,No.2(2019)
Abstract
Keywords:
case study; group psychotherapy; daily treatment centre; narrative analysis
The study presents three clients from one therapeutic group in the daily treatent centre for depression and anxiety. The in-depth interviews were realized in the middle, at the end and 9 months after the completion of the 3-month group therapy program. By means of narrative analysis we demonstrate individual „stories of change“ with an emphasis on conflictual situations, that are experienced, interpreted, reflected upon and further utilized by our protagonists. The members of group construct their understanding of how does the therapy lead to transformation. Narrative approach enables us to grasp this process using the analytic categories such as constitutional trouble, topics of change, agency, values and beliefs and positioning.
