In the Svoboda square area in Brno 18 test pits were excavated. Several correlation horizons were recognized useful for paleoenviromental reconstruction. Quaternary sediments overlay the Badenian clay „tégl“. Basal Quaternary sediments are represented by wetfully loess. At the northern part of the square two depressions filled rusty-brown and red-brown fine grained loams were observed. These sediments are product of overglade or side stream. In their roof there are greenish black-brown porous sediment with typical mud smell. Probably here goes about some little swamp or street sewer were present here. Analyses of heavy minerals and quartz grain morphology studied using SEM microscope from these sediments indicated loess origin and marked chemical weathering.
