Methodological aspects of ethnographic research in prisons

This article focuses on the methodological reflection of ethnographic research in Slovak prisons. The article is based on the ongoing research of one of the authors. It aims to contribute to debates about the possibilities and use of ethnography in the prison environment in Slovakia. The text touches on potentially problematic and sensitive areas of research in prisons, which includes the issue of entering the field, obtaining respondents, conducting interviews or processing research data, and raises important questions of research ethics in connection with the publication of field data. At the same time, the topic is embedded in the broader theoretical contexts of the use of ethnographic methods in hard-to-access institutions and research environments.
