”I shall do it! Here i am!“ (A shawabti of the ancient egyptian draughtsman Parahotep)

Vol.9,No.2(2018)

Abstract
Publication of a shawabti-figure (20,4x5,3x3,5 cm) belonging to the ancient Egyptian draughtsman Parahotep (Fig. 1), the well-known and highly esteemed member of the privileged community of workmen and artists at Deir el-Medina, who were the creators of the famous rock-cut tombs in the Valleys of the Kings and Queens during the New Kingdom (cca 1545-1081 BCE). The identity of the owner of painted terracotta shawabti enables its text, written in cursive hieroglyphs (Figs. 2,3). It is arranged in 8 lines and contains the title and name of Parahotep as well as chapter 6 of the Book of the Dead. The supposed dating of the shawabti represents the mid of the reign of Ramesses II (cca 1260 BCE). The Parahotep`s funerary statuette probably belonged to the large collection of Egyptian antiquities of Baron Franz von Koller (1767-1826), later on was in the possession of Czech industrialist Vojtěch Lanna (1836-1909). Now the shawabti is deposited in a private collection.
