The article provides an overview of development of the intestate succession in the most important czech regions during the Middle Ages. The development is characterized by the gradual expansion of the group of legal heirs at the expense of the royal escheat. In contrast of the relatively uniform provincial law is the situation more complicated in the urban law which is determined by more fragmented legislation.
