The study deals with Slovak changes in legislative tools in connection with sentencing. The first part of the study concentrates on the purpose of the punishment, where there is a new purpose of the punishment – moral condemnation. In the other parts of the study, the author focuses on principles of sentencing and mitigating and aggravating circumstances. The greatest changes arose from sentencing in concurrency and introducing of the principle “Three strikes and you're out”. In the last part the author focuses on an upcoming legislation in connection with sentencing.
