The Influence of Spin Doctoring on the Formation of Public Opinion: The United Kingdom and the Iraq Issue in 2003

Vol.11,No.4(2009)

Abstract
In the process of political communication political parties and their representatives are forced to react to constantly developing media ambience. For this purpose they use the service of professional advisers in the fields of public relations and spin doctoring. This paper aims to analyze the role of spin doctoring (in) and its influence on the formation of public opinion in the United Kingdom during the media campaign for support of the invasion to Iraq in 2003. Emphasis is put on the society and the impact of the accusation that Prime Minister Tony Blair deliberately used spin doctoring to gain public support for military campaign against Saddam Hussein.
