Science of Czechoslovak International Private Law Untill the Year of 1948

Abstract

The author of the article deals with the science of Czechoslovak international private law from the beginning of this century till the year of 1948. One of the youngest branches of our legal science had started to develop already in the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. The science of international private law belonged period among the rather omitted branches of our legal theory in the concerned pe­riod of time. The development of the science of international private law is easy to follow after the origin of Czechoslovakia, expecially in connection with preparations of the new Czechoslovak Civil Code and, too, in respect of the opening of new Law Faculties in the territory of Czechoslovakia.

Main attention is paied to the two of the most important representatives of the Czechoslovak science of international private law till the year of 1948, i.e. professor Jan Krčmář and professor Michail Arturovič Zimmermann. As for the works of professor Krčmář, his fundamental studies are mentioned, such as the Introduction into International Private Law and Basis of Bartol's and Baldus' Theories of International Private Law. Works of professor Zimmermann are introduced in the analysis of his study called International Private Law. At the condusion of the article the author provides a list of other representatives of the science of Czechoslovak inter­national private law till the year of 1948 and a list of their published works is also included.
