The article deals with some problems connected with a membership in political parties. The importance of political parties for the functioning of a political system embodied in the Constitution supposes the stating of clear rules for the membership in political parties. At the beginning the authors analyse situation before the amendment of the Uniting in Political Parties and Political Movements Act No. 117/1994 Coll. They focused their attention on the possibility of a membership for foreigners, on the exclusive membership and on the collective membership. Then the authors describe situation after the amendment, which stated unambiguously the principle of the exclusive membership and the membership only for physical persons. The origin and the end of a membership are described on the examples of statutes of individual pariies. In the end the authors deal with the content of a membership, that are the rights and duties of members.
