Ambiguous Attributive Connections and the Czech-German Parliamentary Dedaration

Vol.5,No.1(1997)

Abstract
Attributes in legal texts are analysed with respect to possible ambiguous readings. Two possible types of ambiguity are defined: the syntactic type and the semantic type. Examples of both types are given, concerning both the national law and the jurisprudence of the World Court. It is shown that the Czech-German Parlamentary Declaration is influenced by the ambiguous reading of the law 115/1946 Sb.

This specific ambiguity refers to the semantic type. The consequences of the dífferent readings of the law are analysed in the paper.
