The aim of the contribution is to explain why a lawyer should study the interdisciplinary subject of the economic analysis of law. At the beginning it briefly acquaints a reader with the history of the economic analysis of law. Subsequently it introduces the economic analysis of law as one of the theoretical method of the legal interpretation and application, which is based on the assumption that efficiency should be the aim of law in the stage of its creation, interpretation as well as application. The model of costs and benefits is useful and needed complement to the approach towards the law. The contribution emphasis both, this interpretation shouldn’t obtain the priority and it shouldn’t be undervalued. It can improve the quality of law and as a consequence of it the economic analysis of law can have a positive impact on the whole society. A lawyer who enriches his/her knowledge about microeconomic theories will get a new view of law and will get a new coherence.
