The Past and the Present of the State Administration in the Field of Occupational Safety

The article gives a brief analysis of the organization and activity of Czech state administration in the field of occupational safety. In the opening part an outline of the development before 1989 is provided. Further the author deals with the basic changes in the system of occupational safety supervision from 1990 up to the present, connected especially with the amendment to the Act No. 174/68 Coll. On the State Expert Occupational Safety Supervision (Act No. l59/92 Coll.). Furthmore the article gives an outline of the necessary changes in the related legislation, work inspection and technical supervision in this field, both those already made and thuse to be made in the future. In the final part of the paper the author also gives a description of the activity of the Occupational Safety Research Institute, Occupational Safety Education Institute and the Czech Occupational Safety Bureau, together with the organizational changes prepared for this section of state administration by the Government.
