The article deals with introduction of the term legal consciousness. Firstly some definitions of legal awareness are presented (using works of important legal theorists or sociologists – for example Viktor Knapp, Manfred Rehbinder and many more). Secondly some other concepts as for example legal literacy are presented. The practice of using the term legal consciousness by higher courts is shown (especially Constitutional court and the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic).
