Learning Support and Testing Accommodations for HE Students with Dyslexia, with Emphasis on English as a Foreign Language

This paper seeks to contribute to the current debate in education over the nature of dyslexia and its implications for learning support and assessment in higher education. The persisting difficulties of dyslexic students that affect their study skills are nowadays recognized by most HE institutions, where students are entitled to learning support and exam adjustments. The special testing provisions, however, do not need to be limited to allowing additional time and offering the option of using a word processor instead of handwriting. The author, who draws on her own experience in providing individual dyslexia consultation hours and accommodating written and oral tests for dyslexic university students, offers recommendations for the development of good practice.
