Abstract
Effective reading in a foreign language and learning new vocabulary requires the use of various strategies. One of them is the strategy of inferring the meaning of unknown or unfamiliar words from context, which involves recognizing and using some context clues. The article describes the individual steps and principles in teaching how to use the clues and provides practical examples from the ESP classes (economic English) to illustrate the teachinglearning process.
