Jan František Kubeš a jeho role v souboji o třebíčskou radnici v letech 1871–1907

Abstrakt
This article pays attention to the political career of bookseller Jan František Kubeš in town Třebíč located in southwestern Moravia. Kubeš worked as a long-term mayor in the town. During the term of his career, the Czechs finally controlled the town hall against the Germans minority. As mayor, he managed the Třebíč until 1907, when he resigned due to newspaper attacks. After 1883 laborers and their political organizations became his main political rival. Despite political diversity and animosity between Kubeš, local members of the National party, and laborers, he was the person with the greatest influence. For Třebíč his work meant a period of great development and a hospital, grammar school, water supply system, railway, and many other important buildings were built. The population of the town has doubled. Referring to these facts, Jan František Kubeš significantly influenced the history of the city. The article can also serve as a demonstration of national life southwestern Moravia.
