The first part of the article shows the efforts of T. G. Masaryk, E. Beneš and M. R. Štefánik to create the conditions for the creation of Czechoslovak foreign troops in the years 1916–1917. The second part is devoted to the behavior of the gen. M. R. Štefánik and compatriot associations in the United States of America on the possibility of recruiting volunteers into Czechoslovak foreign troops. The third part of the article deals with the emergence and operation of the Military Department of the Czechoslovak National Council in America under the leadership of Kpt. Zdeněk Fierlinger in the recruitment of volunteers and the military camp in Stamford, Connecticut.
