Abstrakt
Mary Magdalene, who, besides the mother of Jesus, is the woman most frequently mentioned in the Gospels, earned a great reputation in the Western church after she came to be identified with the “sinner” (Luke 7:36–50) and the sister both of Martha and of Lazarus (Luke 10:38–42; John 12:1–8). The identity of the three, which is impossible to demonstrate, nonetheless caused the formation of numerous legends and fictions about Mary Magdalene. The aim of this paper is to portray the role of Mary Magdalene – as an important disciple of Jesus – according to the four canonical gospels and to point out her significance according to the testimony of these New Testament texts.
