Abstrakt
Social policy of Czechoslovakia from 1918 was implemented by various entities, of which, besides the state institutions, also the trade unions played a major role, despite their considerable fragmentation. Socio-political activities in that period became a very important part of the overall structure of social life. The study analyzes especially the following two adopted legal measures: Act on unemployment benefits (so called the Gaunt system) and workers disability and old-age insurance. This confirmed the fact that the favorable development of economy brings new solutions to social issues, which further improved the existing social system. During their design and implementation by the state also the cooperation and participation of trade unions helped. From this perspective the study of social policy can not be separated from the study of society as a whole. The sickness insurance system in the Czech Lands (Czechoslovakia) belonged among the best in Europe at that time.
