Abstrakt
The purpose of the paper – “The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved”: His Role and Importance in the Gospel of John – is to present an interpretation both of the texts which are indisputably about “the disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 13:21–30 19:25–37; 20:110; 21:114, 2025) and also of the disputed text, in which he may appear (John 18:1516; 1,35–40). The detailed exegesis will help us to present the main characteristics of the portrait of “the disciple whom Jesus loved” and to point out his role and importance in the Gospel of John. The Beloved Disciple is the exemplary disciple. He remains faithful to Jesus until the Crucifixion (John 19:2537), he is the first to believe in the resurrection of Jesus (John 20:8). In John 21:7 he is the first to recognize the risen Lord. Finally the Beloved Disciple embodies all those who are deeply loved by Jesus because they love him and keep his commandments.
