Abstrakt
This study presents selected results of pieces of empirical research conducted in 2005–2011 relating to the memory of events and personalities from the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. The emphasis is placed on a specific type of historical source cartoons, on the frequency and form of their inclusion in history teaching, and on the creation of skills in “reading” and interpreting iconic texts. It demonstrates the state of preparedness of student history teachers for work with this educational medium with the help of specific examples. It then indicates possible solutions to the situation in this regard on the basis of a diagnosis of the current situation.
