Czechs were active in the Austrian part of Galicia, holding various professions (administrators, teachers, entrepreneurs, farmers, and the like). A less well known area of their activities was horticulture, in which they gained renown above all in Medyka in the eastern part of Galicia, where the director of the botanical garden was a Czech named Josef Blažek
