Abstrakt
The image of Prague in the consciousness of the Russian émigré community was complex and contradictory. The dispute as to whether it was a capital city or a province that evolved within the émigré community in the nineteen twenties and thirties was initiated by a relatively small group of intellectuals, primarily writers. It resulted from old artistic and aesthetic disputes being brought to émigré soil, and was not connected with the true position of the émigré centres.
