Utilitarianism as Destructive of Justice: Cicero and the Roman Jurists

Abstrakt
In a discussion conceming questions of modem philosophical ideas it might seem to be rather out of place to deal with atithors and thinkers who wrote about two thousand years ago. On the other hand it is certainly true that any truth discovered at any time in history is, if it is a truth, still true. Why especially Cicero explicitly and the Roman jurists more implicitly thought utilitarianism to be destructive of justice.
