The poet, born in the mid-Italian town of Sulmo, created a description of Roman religious feasts, including the explanation of their origin. He also paid attention to the sequence of the feasts and the importance of particular days, not only dwelling upon to the historical aspect thereof, but also taking note of the important historical anniversaries. Even though the main structural treat of the work is the chronological principle and the leading motive the description of the Roman religious feasts, Ovide did include also several remarks on law. However, the pieces of information concerning this subject are often much too superficial.
