Exilové působení P. Josefa Čupra SJ (1934-2019) https://journals.muni.cz/dejinyadejepis/article/view/42748 The study informs about the work of the Jesuit P. Josef Čupr (1934–2019) in exile. The native of Býkovice studied civil engineering in Brno, however, after several years of practice, he decided to make his life plan come true – to study theology and become a priest. Czechoslovakia did not become the place of realization and thus Čupr joined the priestly exile in Rome, where he was ordained, and not long after joined the Societas Iesu. He was allowed to return to his homeland only after the fall of the Iron Curtain, when between 1991 and 1998 he was the head of the Czech Province of the Society of Jesus. For the purpose of this study, sources from state and private archives were collected. The primary data were then compared with specialist literature in order to present the exile events of P. Čupra against the background of that time. By following his life in exile and work as a Jesuit priest, the study also aims to find out the answer to why Čupr became the Czech provincial of the Society of Jesus in the 1990s and what were the starting points for his appointment. It was created as a result of the work of the author, who has been dealing with this topic in pursuance of his diploma thesis. In this period the French Association Jan Hus was sending the leading French academicians to give lectures in the unofficial housing seminars. The article focuses mainly on safety of these seminars because it was the most important parameter. After the brief introduction the original security concept invented by Jiří Müller, coordinator of the activities, is described. Then this paper examines two complicated crossings of borders when the French visitors Nathalie Roussarie and Yves Geffroy were stopped in customs office. Finally, the information known by State Security (StB) about the activities of the Association Jan Hus in Brno are described and analysed and some possible reasons why the security forces never intervened against these activities are presented. When collecting materials, the author mainly used the sources of Security Service Archive (Kanice, Czech Republic), the archive La Contemporaine (Nanterre, France) and interviews with witnesses and furthermore, previously published works. It explores teachers‘ views on the benefits of teaching about this topic, drawing from the data collected, not only in the Czech Republic but also from various countries to allow for a small-scale cross-comparison. Furthermore, the paper examines teachers‘ perspectives on the importance of teaching different historical time periods, their personal connections to ancient Greece and Rome, and the challenges they face. Additionally, the paper discusses the contextualization of classical antiquity in the present-day and its significance in specific countries, together with the potential for collaboration between teachers and museum educators. The insights presented in this paper can serve museum educators in developing educational programs and materials, as well as an inspiration for history teachers and an overview of their peers‘ experiences. Selská vzpoura a zbojnická revolta v historickém filmu a její aktualizační potenciál https://journals.muni.cz/dejinyadejepis/article/view/42751 The study focuses on depictions of class conflicts during the Baroque period in Czech and Slovak historical films. Czech filmmakers chose as the subject of their films primarily the peasant uprising of the so-called Psohlavci (Dogheads) in 1695. Slovak filmmakers chose mainly the theme of robbery for their films, specifically the character of the robber Juraj Jánošík, who was executed in 1713. All film adaptations are based on Czech and Slovak historical myths. In these myths, peasant rebels and robbers are perceived as folk heroes and representatives of positive values. The study also examines the political use and abuse of these topics in the 20th century and today. Films are a mirror of historical memory. However, films can also become a source of historical memory and, secondarily, help shape the group identity of a national community.
